Sculptra Treatment in London

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra ®Aesthetic contains a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid, which is a biocompatible, biodegradable substance that is commonly found in dissolvable stitches. Sculptra® is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body over time.

How does Sculptra ®work?

In clients with healthy immune systems Sculptra® works by stimulating collagen production which allows tissue to volumise and wrinkles and lines to be smoothed out. Over time, the Poly-L-Lactic Acid in Sculptra dissipates as the client’s own tissue takes its place.

When does Sculptra starts to work and how long do results last for?

Sculptra® is designed to give noticeable results that emerge gradually and can last in some cases for more than two years. Sculptra treatment delivers its full effects with an average of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months. Because results happen gradually, clients can expect to see subtle, yet noticeable, results within a couple of months following treatment.

Which areas can be treated with Sculptra®?

Sculptra® can be used for the following purposes:

  • Replace lost facial volume .
  • Replace lost volume to the décolletage area.
  • Correct volume loss in hands.
  • To achieve a "Butt lift". Higher doses of Sculptra are required for this treatment.
  • Replace the lost volume in the legs and arms.
  • Replace the lost volume in the neck.

How many treatments are usually required?

This depends on the needs of individual clients . Typically for face volume replacement, a treatment regime of up to four injection sessions (one or two vials per treatment session) four to six weeks apart may be necessary to achieve optimal results. For treatment of Buttock, legs and arms higher doses of Sculptra® are required.

What are the possible side effects?

These include:

  • Swelling that lasts for a couple of days.
  • Bruising is a small possibility.
  • Rarely Sculptra can cause lumps that may need treating.

What is the downtime?

At Clapham Skin Clinic, we inject Sculptra® using a 25 gauge cannula to minimise discomfort during the procedure and reduce possible side effects such as bruising and swelling. It is normal for the treatment area to appear bruised and slightly swollen however such side effects are typically resolved within a few days post treatment and clients can normally return to normal activity the next day.

Which areas are not suitable for Sculptra treatment?

Sculptra® is not suitable for forehead, neck and tear trough correction.  However, Sculptra® treatment  in the cheeks can improve the appearance of tear troughs.

Who performs the procedure?

Dr Baba, a highly trained and experienced aesthetic doctor who is also a senior trainer for this procedure at London Aesthetic Academy (www.londonaestheticacademy.co.uk) will perform your procedure.
